Modern mineral-based motor oils can go 3,000-5,000 miles between oil changes. Synthetic motor oil is more expensive but can go for a 7,500-10,000 mile interval between changes. Many manufacturers now recommend synthetics for their vehicles, since they outperform conventional oil in every aspect.
